soft like a baby's bottom...hee-hee

i found some great quilted place mats at savers (thrift store) and when combined with my re:use stash i came up with these soft purses for my collection of fabric (eco-friendly) bags. chosen for their bright colors there's something very comfy-cozy about them. i love them!

the green blackbird purse has a strap made from a white/green/tan striped canvas belt, which i printed a tree on. the inside and outside of the purse has pockets made of reclaimed suede and the exterior decorated with a blackbird and flowers (kept closed with velcro). the purse closes on top with a silk cord and big vintage button.

dimensions: 12" x 8" and strap is 22"

the sunshine purse is a soft yellow omelet shaped bag and it's strap is made from a vintage silk necktie. the inside is a brown floral pattern and outside is a bright yellow (w/ white polka-dots) with it's resident skunk smelling some flowers.

dimensions: 13" x 7" and strap is 22"

they are both oh-so perfect for holding everything you need and more...beautiful, sturdy, washable and eco-friendly!!!

inspiration....

like many creative people, i too experience blocks, lulls, dead brain space....the wheels just are not turning for me and i have to venture into the world to unlock my block. i have a new foster dog....her name is ginger or i should say i call her ginger but she came into the idaho humane society as 'patience'. i'm not a fan of that word nor do i care for it to be anyone's name so.....ginger fits and it becomes her. anywhoo.....see the different shades of orange, white, black, etc....i call this green recycled mod clutch....da-da-da-da....ginger in the grass.

the body of the purse is a cool retro green linen place mat & the wristlet and wrap is made from a vintage silk mod orange, black, yellow, & white geometric print tie. the front flap closes over a with velcro. it's perfect for holding everything you need and more. it's beautiful, sturdy, washable and eco-friendly!!!

measures 12.5" wide by 7" tall

all recycled bags, purses, & totes!!

so here you have it....my recycling fabric mania! i'm having a lot of fun making these bags and feeling good about it too. the main part of the bag is made up of placemats or rugs i find at thrift stores and the straps are belts or silk neckties i also collect from various thrift stores here in town. another bonus from being eco-friendly is that they are washable....i don't know about you but my lip gloss (that i'm addicted to) has a hard time keeping it's lid on and gets all over everything! they are made to last too....my step-daughter (just graduated from high school) has been schlepping hers around town for a month now and it's still in one piece! and she's got everything in there...including a tire pump for her bike!

i like to melt things!

my next series of jewelry i am creating from a huge tub of plastic pony beads i found at a local thrift store. i'm melting them in my oven and forming them into various heart shapes...none of them are perfect and that's also the point/statement i'm making with these. i'm exploring different ways of embellishing them and these are what i've got so far....

i am pippi longstocking if you say it fast it's funny....

i love pippi! she's been my hero/alter-ego my whole life! i'm really growing quite fond of making these slogan/catch phrase cuffs...they are starting to haunt me in my sleep. my mind has been on auto pilot with pairing images with phrases that fit to my liking. a bit obsessive, maybe but i'm getting a lot of compliments, which fuel the fire!

pheartsb! schwag...

The term schwag refers to all manner of logoed stuff given away by companies to get people to remember them, feel good about them, have their phone number and website at hand and generally make them think about them before any of their competitors.

now i don't know if it's been because of this head cold thingy that i've had for like EVER but i opened up a cafepress.com shop to test out the realm of schwag. i've got shirts, mugs, and caps with a quasi logo on it. it's not really sitting well with me because it does go against my buy handmade mantra. i could easily make my own schwag or do i need schwag? i do however like the word 'schwag'. well, i'll probably close the shop but if you get a chance...post your opinions, etc...

i went to the re:use market

the re:use market is a place here in boise, idaho that recycles fun & unique art & craft materials. it's only open one weekend a month and yesterday was the day! i got a lot of very cool stuff including a handful of wood laminate chips that some interior design shop donated. here's one idea i came up with for these chips...i designed a collage onto one and then applied a resin high gloss glaze to it. it's hanging from a pink leather strap with a silver clasp. what do you think? i like it. i've dubbed it "beauty is in the eye.." necklace.

new line of slogan bracelets and cuffs

i'm starting to develop my own style of bracelet and cuffs with slogans. this one here is bonnie parker (bonnie & clyde) with the "keep on truckin'" slogan and it's a nice piece to have on your wrist when you're having "one of those days". the kitty cuff below also falls into this line i'm developing.
p.s. another running theme throughout is the color pink...i love pink!

maybe because i am a leo...?

i don't know if you've noticed but there's a heavy duty cat theme running around in my designs. here's a cuff i just finished last night - it's hot pink and black with one of my favorite slogans 'hang in there baby!' printed on it.

Cats rule!

Have you ever watched a cat rolling in the sun and thought how wonderful it would be to be a cat? Have you wondered what kind of a cat you might be in a reincarnation? Click here to take this little purrsonality test, and you might be surprised by the answer. Note: This test is purely unscientific and guaranteed not to turn you into a cat, but I think it's fun. I'm a Snowshoe -

The Snowshoe is gregarious and talkative. She is always ready for fun and will regularly try to instigate a game. While her strong intellect leads her to try new things, it also causes her to become easily bored when a task is mastered. Variety is truly the spice of life for this kitty! Affectionate with others, eager to interact, the Snowshoe is always the "belle of the ball"......what are you??

the history of valentines day.....

every february, across the country, candy, flowers, and gifts are exchanged between loved ones, all in the name of st. valentine. but who is this mysterious saint and why do we celebrate this holiday?

one legend contends that valentine was a priest who served during the third century in rome. when emperor claudius II decided that single men made better soldiers than those with wives and families, he outlawed marriage for young men -- his crop of potential soldiers. valentine, realizing the injustice of the decree, defied claudius and continued to perform marriages for young lovers in secret. when valentine's actions were discovered, claudius ordered that he be put to death. while in prison, it is believed that valentine fell in love with a young girl -- who may have been his jailor's daughter -- who visited him during his confinement. before his death, it is alleged that he wrote her a letter, which he signed 'from your valentine,' an expression that is still in use today.

and thus, the creation of this bracelet....a little sweet candy, maybe some heartbreak, and for the o.g. valentine....death

here's a pendant i did of my dog charlie after i adopted him. he was found abandoned by the side of the road w/ a broken leg and ripped ear. he spent about a month in the humane society clinic but then got kennel cough so i volunteered to foster him till he got better and could be adopted. well, i fell in love and now he's a permanent member of our family which includes two other dogs (pit bull and a beagle) and two cats.

here is a necklace i just made of my fish 'goldie' ....he makes a lot of bubbles!
